Backed Mon Mome for the National !!!

Saturday 4 April,

.....Unfortunately, that was last Christmas in the Welsh National when he lost at an SP of 9/2.

Yesterday, just over three months later, he goes and wins the big one at 100/1 ! Of course, I wasn't on it yesterday and neither was anyone else standing anywhere near me by the sound of it - I think I would have heard them !

Had a brilliant day out at the national, and have been feeling surprisingly good today considering how many I had yesterday. It was rammed of course, but once we got ourselves organised it was no problem to get a drink, have a bet and watch the racing.

Clearly, the sheer size of the Grand National course means that you have to watch most of the race on the big screens, but we had a good view of the home straight, the chair and the water. The facilities at Aintree these days are excellent, a far cry from when I first went there back in 1990. They've obviously spent a lot of money over the years, and as a day out it is right up there with any of the other big meetings I've attended.

As far as the betting went, I won about £500 at the track, which was very welcome - thanks to Don't Push It and Kalahari King, and the obligatory unlucky second with Issaquah being chinned on the line by the 66/1 Culcabock.

For the blog, it was a bad losing day, but it could have been a lot worse.

The Tipping Legends text arrived while I was queueing to get in, I glanced at it but notice any of the tips. Then when I looked for it once I was in, the text had disappeared from my inbox - as far I know I didn't delete it, but it had gone. I don't have a back-up for this situation, it's never happened before so I was stuck really and left with the painful thought that they might have a great day and I was going to miss out.

As it turned out, they had a very disappointing day, so I saved money there. Howver it could have gone the other way, and I would have been left cursing my misfortune. It's not a situation that will happen very often as I usually have access to my e-mails during the day and the text has never got "lost" before, but I ought to have a back-up just in case.

Most of my other business was from bets placed on the national previously, and from Paul Jones trends service. Not the best day by any means, but clearly it could have been much worse.
