Profit and Loss w/e 26/07/09

Amazing week, probably the best ever and things are looking great just now.

Of course the game being what it is, it's quite possible I could give it all back next week - the record for the big meetings so far this year has been pretty poor to be honest.

No point worrying about that though - just going to enjoy the moment !

I'm away for a few days on Wednesday - will be betting while I'm away though. A lot of action but it shouldn't be too difficult for me to get the bets on. Will update the blog until Tuesday night and then the next update after that will be about a week later.

from JB........
Worrying sounds from SLH on the sunday review message. Seems to imply wont be giving out the big odds horses at the smaller meetings anymore i.e that man fox type horses>

JP from your records how much of the profit attained has come from those type of horses, I can remember 2 or 3 off hand. bret maverick 25/1 ish winning sp half of that. If those type of bets are removed from the service can it continue to run at a profit? how would SLH figures for yourself be if removed all those types of bets that 50/1 winner??......

hi JB,

It's a difficult one - on the one hand what's the point in him giving out bets that you can't get on, but if he's found something worth putting up then he ought to give it out really and everyone just has to do the best they can with it.

Maybe just giving them as part of the extras on the daily message might be the answer.

As for recording bets like those on his account at SP, that doesn't really matter other than for his advertising - makes no difference to those of us already with him.

His advice to break the bets into smaller units and spread them won't work either because it's a time thing - the bookies are getting the selections and then slashing the prices without laying any bets !

It doesn't help either that people are backing them on Betfair at lower than the minimum advised price within a minute or two of the bets being given out, which clearly forces the bookies prices down further.

As SLH said yesterday, That Man Fox was available at the recommended price on Betfair again after drifting before the race.

The two big priced winners this year Leau du Nil (33/1 adv), got half my stake on at 50/1 - SP 20/1 and Bret Maverick (16/1 adv) got 20/1 and 25/1 - SP 9/1 were worth £6600 to me, around half of the profits I've made this year. To quote it in points though which is probably fairer - they make up 65 of the 157 points profit I'm quoting for him to advised stakes and prices.

Bret Maverick was on a Saturday, so he might still have given it, but Leau du Nil was given out the day before Cheltenham so that might have gone by the board.

We'll just have to see how he works round it.

Gags, thanks mate - and it's good to see you getting a couple of winners for your account. Best of luck for this week.

rc - thankyou !!!

The best way to get money on SLH's bets is to stand in a bookmakers (Coral, William Hill or Ladbrokes), wait for the 1pm call then place the bet. Don't mess around with internet accounts - they cap your bets too harshly and waste your time so you miss the prices. Skybet are one of the worst in my opinion. There is nothing better than the bookies shop. I bet £100 per point and have never had a problem placing bets but then I am in London. It may not work in the village bookmakers where you can get known.

Why all the fuss about That Man Fox - dreadful horse, no form, no pedigree and, as I expected, a shocking run. Did anyone actually watch the race you are all fussing about?!

thanks Trigster :-)

Hi Dave,

As time goes on, placing bets via the internet or on the phones is getting more difficult.

Got all the big 3 plus the tote where I live, and also one or two others within a 10 mile radius.

Not placed a bet in a bookies for about two years, so no idea how easy it is to get on in the shops.

It's another option to consider.

Thanks for your comment.

Anon - many thanks for your incisive comment.

If you bothered to read or listen to any of the recent comments, it's got nothing to do with the horse itself - rather the problem of getting the bets on at the advised prices.

However you clearly know everything so that shouldn't be a problem for you.

Hi JP, It's good to see that your personal bets are bringing more and more profit. I think slowly you'll reduce number of tipsters you use and concentrate on your bets. No problems then with disappearing odds. Good luck!

hi Zorba,

Most of the personal bets I place are based on the info I get from the tipsters so I wouldn't really expect to cut back.

But there are many sources of information out there, coupled with a bit of study, which can add to the profits - and as you say, might be easier to place.

Thanks for your comment, and best of luck to you !
