Could have been even worse

Thursday 17 September

Very frustrating day with only one winner, and knock-backs galore !

The winner, a very welcome one for TFG, was Wiseman's Diamond - advised at 8/1 but that price wasn't available when the bet was given out - 13/2 was the best price on Oddschecker and I couldn't get any of that either, so left an order on Betfair and eventually got 6/1 late on before the price crashed - the winning SP was 4/1.

The Equine Investments text came through early today, advised at top price of 6/1 - a non-runner (9/1 - 10/1 shot) came through at about the same time so most of the bookies were SP only, and took the opportunity to cut the price before reforming the market, and laying any bets, 4/1 was the best I could do when I finally managed to get on, that didn't last long either and the horse was well backed all day ending up at an SP of 11/4.

It was no surprise that I couldn't get on the Isiris each way double, although I did manage to get on £50 e/w of the £200 e/w I was after, for the remaining stake I backed the first selection e/w, and decided to back the second horse to win. Out of pocket there as Capeability ran a dismal race to finish unplaced.

Plenty of bets advised by Winabob today for the weekend, took over half an hour to get on - managed the advised price on most of the bets, but Corals were an absolute joke - five outright refusals to lay anything "can't proceed - bet slip refused" and the other one came back with a quarter of what I asked for. Managed to get on elsewhere apart from one bet, which I'll hopefully get matched on Betfair before kick-off.

Bad day again in terms of the P&L, just the one winner as mentioned earlier, which was badly needed otherwise it would have been a big losing day.

JB says,
JP have you tried using a Coral Debit/Deposit telephone account. I was effectively banned online but are accpeting bets of hundreds over the phone currently.

Another option if you can't get on at Coral is to open a Eurobet account they usually have the same odds.

thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll have a look into it.

Corals website is appalling - used to tell you how much they would lay at the price.

Not any more, "can't proceed - bet slip refused" is the usual response.

No doubt their traders are slavishly following what Betfair tells them what to do, and everyone who tries to get best priced is automatically refused.

Tried to place the TL golf bet on Wednesday - the selection was best priced at 10/1 with Coral, 9/1 elsewhere.

Submitted my bet "bet slip refused" tried a smaller and got back "bet max exceeded, no more allowed on this selection". So thry layed me precisely nothing.

Had a look on Betfair, it was 10 to back 13.5 to lay - total matched on market £337 !

So they didn't want to lay at 10/1 fine, so why not cut the price.

No they didn't - checked Thursday afternoon, they were still showing 10/1 - 20 hours after refusing my bet.

They don't refuse everything - they were top price the TFA selection today and I got £75 e/w @ 15/2 so they can do it. Must have been bigger on Betfair I guess ?!
