Level day so far

Sunday 27 September

*** Edited 12.05 am Monday ***

Nothing doing on the golf tonight. Ochoa never looked like winning as Gustafson birdied the first and opened up a three shot gap when she eagled the fifth. Final margin of victory was three strokes, as she could only manage a level par round of 72.

Another second place finish - the third this month.

Better news on the football though as Deportivo won 1-0 on Sunday evening, to make it three out of four this weekend for Football Elite. This result also ensured I made a small profit on the day.

The Form Guru had one winner today with Record Breaker advised as a 3 point win bet at 4/1. This ensured a profit on his selections even though the other five were unplaced.

Isiris gave out Ascendant at 11/8, which was backed right down to 5/6 at the off - the horse just prevailing from Spirit Is Needed. The other selection, an each way on Kingdom Of Fife produced a small profit by finishing third.

Equine Invesments had just one bet today with Lost In Paris finishing second.

Football Elite had Almeria today, but the match finished 2-2.

Another loser from Best Under today as their pick ended 3-1. Early days with this service but it has got off to a very bad start with only seven correct from their first twenty selections - and with half the bets being advised at odds of 7/10 or shorter. It's a long term game of course and football betting is marginal at the best of times so it will be interesting to see how this goes over the next few weeks.

Retief Goosen won't win the Tour Championship even without Woods so I can book that loss now.

The other golf pick this week was on the Asian Tour. Gaganjeet Bhullar was advised as a 1 point each way bet at 28/1 for the Asia Pacific Panasonic Open. The event was priced up by three "bookmakers" - Bet365, Stan James and Skybet. Skybet offered me £0.60 each way, Stan James £1.40 each way and Bet365 £1.19 each way.

I declined those very kind offers and saved myself £200, which will cover the one point I missed on Ochoa if she wins as I couldn't get the advised 9/1.

Stan James and Skybet are no great loss to me, as they never lay a decent bet anyway but I need a new account with Bet365 as they did play the game with me for a good while this year and they are also BOG of course.

Hi JP. Whilst I admire your style and discipline, particularly in keeping to your staking plans and rules for each service, why didn't you simply put a back in place on Gustafson to guarantee a profit, rather than crossing fingers?

Hi Rob,

Good to hear from you.

Did the same as I always do and let the original bet stand.

I don't know what price Gustafson was tonight but I guess no bigger than even money and I'm happy to pass in that situation.

Similarly I never lay any of the golf bets off even when the opportunity arises, such as with Ryan Moore the other week.

The strike rate is so low - five winners from 128 bets this year - that I want the maximum return when they do come in.

They either win or they don't, that's the gamble and that's the way I prefer it.

Anyway, fancy exchanging links ?

All the best

Yes, that's fine
