Inching Ahead

Tuesday 3 November

Couple of winners on a busy day, but overall progress was minimal with a profit on the day of £5.96 !

Back at work today which meant I was limited to placing all the bets on Betfair via my mobile, other than the SLH bets which I placed in my lunch break.

A welcome winner for Isiris in the big race of the day - advised a split stake bet on the winner Planet Of Sound and 4th placed Mahogany Blaze.

Tipping Legends were the other winners today with Royal Trooper in Catterick's last flat race of the season. Managed the advised price of 5/1 after commission. In the same race The Form Analyst's selection Red Wine was unplaced.

Maths advised an account bet on Pippbrook Gold at Kempton - each way at 11/1 - 12/1. Could only get an average of 10/1 on Betfair, and just over 2/1 on the place - even then I didn't get matched in full. Pippbrook Gold ran a fine race to finish third, and a profit on the bet of £70.

SLH gave Paddy's Tern on his mainline at a minimum price of 4/1 - unplaced, as were the two all weather horses.

First bets of the week from The Form Guru, but no returns from any of them - £50 saved though as my place bet on Nornally was unmatched.

Couldn't pick up the Pricewise Extra selections until more than an hour after they had been given out, but interested to see that one of them was Paddy's Tern at an advised price of 7/1.

Did manage to get a bet on the other one, Bertie May - advised at 12/1, decided to have £50 on at 10/1 on Betfair near the off but nothing doing. Other bets I had today, well last night, were on a couple of horses mentioned by TL for the Melbourne Cup - but they were both unplaced.

HI JP
ive just recently found this blog and am quite amazed by it. I have started a betting portfollio back in August with a starting bank of 1K. My balance iscurrently looking at just under 1.7k and my target is 2k by the end of the year. So i am a million miles away from where you are but what you are doing is my aim.

It interests me that you are still working even though you have made so much profit this year, do you still not feel comfortable enough to give up the day job?

You may have mentioned it somewhere on this blog but I would be interested to know what size your betting bank is now up to?

Also what is your main aim, how far are you trying to take this venture?

cheers TOM

Hi JB,

Haven't seen the race, and only saw the 1/2/3 this morning on the teletext. Didn't realise it finished so close.

Hi Tom,

Good to hear from you, and best of luck with your own portfolio. Just build things up nice and steady and you'll get to where you want to be - look after that bank !

Regarding the work situation, I'm leaving my job in December and then I'll be doing this full time in the new year.

As for bank size etc, I currently use a "working" bank of about 20K - meaning the cash I keep in my current account or in the bookies / Betfair accounts. I then have another 30-40K in reserve.

As for the future, I'm intending making this my full time living, so more of the same next year is the plan !

All the best
JP

JB says,
JP if you ever get an account with Star Racing dont ever put a SLH, Equine Investments, or racing post bet on with them. They ban your account and cease trading if you ever bet a horse from one of these services. I had my 3rd bet with them today and banned me today. They ban the account as the horses are always such movers and create movement on betfair. They said dont want that type of client.

They would accept bets on horse where there is no movement, like a service of a chosen few only 10 people who dont affect the market. Then they would accept big bets on those horses. 500GBP and more range. Usually gives odds of 1pt lower than the current betfair price. They say there prices are linked to betfair tracker.

Would proberly be OK with the Golf bets as well.

would be wise to throw in some purely random bets with them every 2-3 days to stop them from establshing any patterns

Hi JB,

Sounds like a waste of time then, as those would be the only bets I would be interested in placing !

I can do all the others on Betfair anyway.
