An eventful day to round off a tough month, dropped another £381 today but still ahead on the year despite an awful recent run.
I was on New Little Bric last week in the Racing Post Chase, never travelled a yard then, but wouldn't you know it today blinkers back on, ridden positively and not unbacked, he wins at 14/1.
Plenty of ups and downs today, Darkness was in a battle with Irish Raptor when the latter ducked out and crashed into the running rails after the cross fence. The course had been dolled out from the inside rail, but they had left a gap between the two rails which a loose horse ran down and Irish Raptor looked to try and follow.
Next up I was on Leac An Scail, and he was brought down when Arrayou came down in front of him approaching the 4th last. Had nowhere to go but he lives to fight another day, unlike Arrayou who was fatally injured.
Nom De Guerre's race turned into a farce when all the fences in the home straight were omitted due to the low sun, meaning there were only 10 fences in the race instead of 18. Exactly the same thing happened in this race last year. Why they ran the bumper as the race before and not this one is beyond me, but nothing should every come as a surprise with the way racing is run in this country.
Finally The Bishops Baby ran a fine race to finish third, considering his saddle slipped somewhere in the back straight. Came there challenging in the straight but flattened out in the last furlong.
Bit of a pain getting some of the bets on this afternoon. All part and parcel of what I have to do of course, but more difficult than I would have imagined on a Saturday - the £100 bet on Stan had to be spread across 5 different bookmakers.
Leaking a bit of cash on the football recently - had a few winners on my shortlist, but when it came to putting my bet together, it was somewhat lacking !

Best for a while
Friday 27 February
Been a while since I've posted a daily result as good as this, always a very good feeling, but particularly after the torrid spell I've endured this month.
Highlight of the day was Gala Evening, a 16/1 winner from Tipping Legends - only a half point each way on their staking plan, so I did well with that one. They also gave me a 3/1 winner with Very Cool, although I would have much preferred it if he had finished second to Optimum's selection South Bank (12/1), rather than the other way round.
SLH gave a winner and a second on his mainline, and two winners on his exchange service - not the best with the prices on these though, but his all weather bet was unplaced.

Two in a row

It's been a very poor month for the services I follow, none more so than the Tipping Legends who are on target for their worst month since they started. However a very welcome winner today in Kilcrea Asla, hopefully a sign of better times ahead.
The other winner came from Optimum with Shake The Barley at Taunton - remember backing this one last time round when advised by the Tipping Legends, when it finished second at 10/1, but I got the money today.
Last bet of the day was via Mathematician who advised Wine 'n Dine at 11/8 - shortened all the way in to an SP of 4/6, and traded at 1.03 in running despite never getting his head in front, beaten a head.

At last !!

* Just updating my spreadsheets and realised Fizzlephut's SP was 15/2, not 17/2 as previously stated - have amended the p&l accordingly.
When the first two bets of the day finished second, I thought here we go again - another one of them days. However things finally took a positive turn when Fizzlephut went in at Wolverhampton. Even better, the horse drifted out to 15/2 from the advised 9/2 - and I was on at best odds guaranteed !
So a step in the right direction, hopefully can build on it in the next few days.

Running out of ways to say this

Well, you've guessed it - another losing day. The only winner given out was Chief Dan George at Catterick given on SLH's exchange service but even then that was only a bet to cover most of the stake on the main selection Great Approach, which finished second, and so still lost £28 on the race.
Elsewhere it was the same old story with another six losers as this dreadful run continues and takes losses in the last 13 days to £6220.
This run will come to an end eventually, although there's very little sign of it at the moment but it shows the importance of having a proper bank in place - I'll still be here and able to get back in profit when things turn around.
Will be playing on the football tonight - still picking my bet out, and will update tomorrow.

Two selections but nothing to arrest the recent slide. Bushwacker was bet down from 11/1 when the horse was given out, which I couldn't get, into an SP of 4/1 and finished 5th.
The other selection Rippling Ring ran appallingly and finished last - seems to be out of love with the game at present, I know how he feels !

Four more losers today, plus losses on the golf mean I've now gone behind on the year. £5442 has disappeared from my account in the last 11 days, full details of the profit and loss to follow shortly.
Now £410 down in 2009, after booking the Sunday evening golf losses - tournament still in progress but neither Tim Clark or Charley Hoffman are in contention.
At times like this, you have to remain positive and keep things in perspective. It's been a terrible run but as I say I'm only £210 down on the year and, despite the last few days, since the middle of October 2008 I've won £12,666 - so this is a losing run that is not entirely unexpected. I'll be glad to see the end of it though !!
Come on now guys, get some winners picked out and get this thing moving forward again.

Happy New Year !!

Another losing day today and I think I'm just about back to where I was at the end of last year. Off out tonight, so not much time to confirm the figures but I think that's right.
Will reply to all recent comments tomorrow when I've got a bit more time, many thanks for the responses and the encouraging words - don't worry about me, the confidence is still high and I ain't going anywhere. It will turn in my favour again. Besides I'm about level on the year, and judging from what I read elsewhere that's not too bad.
Had a bit of luck with Mae Cigan today at Chepstow, maybe that will be a turning point. However today also saw Silver Sedge which was put up by both TL and Optimum coming down at the first, and the second leg of Maths e/w double refusing to race - fortunately the first leg had already gone down. So not going to get too excited just yet.
Not been out much lately, but I'm out in a few minutes and I'm gonna have a few !! Again thanks for all the comments - keep 'em coming.

Another Shocker

The tone for the day was set early today. I'd already had a loser at Sandown with Nike Walker advised at 9/2, drifting to an SP of 10/1 and finishing tailed off last.
However next up was the 1.50 at Warwick where SLH put up Vagrant Emperor at 3/1 - made a mess of the last and was getting back up as the line came, beaten a short head. Even better SLH had advised a lay of Clay Hollister up to 2.5 - which was the lay price when I got the race up on Betfair. Put in my lay, and didn't get matched - my lay sat there at the front of the queue but the price never came back and I wasn't going to chase it out.
The day followed the same depressing track of the last week or so, and in the end I've backed 8 losers and lost another £700.
Of course tomorrow starts again at zero, so here's hoping for a decent day at last.

Don't let anyone ever tell you this game is easy. Currently enduring the worst run for some time with the loss over the last 8 days now standing at £3611.
I would be concerned if most of the horses were running badly, but they're not - I just can't get enough of them across the winning line. Just 4 winners in the last week, but 11 seconds and 10 thirds show I'm not that far away.
Could do with a good weekend though !

Only return today was on a place lay advised by SLH on his exchange line. The selections from the other services produced two seconds, including Laustra Bad who was beaten a nose by a 40/1 shot.
One or two problems getting on Orpsie Boy today, didn't get any of the advised 16/1 then had to split my £100 at 14/1 between no fewer than 5 bookmakers !

MOB Horseracing Results
Last week was clearly a struggle for most of the tipsters out there, as evidenced by the results of my services and also MOB Horseracing whose results I'm monitoring at the moment. This is their latest e-mail to me.....
Have had some problems with webserver and website this weekend, so bit behind with updating figures. Also knowing what was going to come out at the end probably made me not so keen to come to the final figure.
This past week has not been a pretty one particularly, its a fine line between profit and loss with three tasty prices this week finishing second (16/1 - 12/1 & 17/2),even just one of thos managing to win and we would be in a totally different situation

Profit and loss w/e 15/02/09
A very poor week showing a loss of over £2000. After a bad start things were looking promising by mid-week. However, two four figure losing days on Thursday and Saturday with no winners on either day ensured I suffered my worst week for a while.
Start of a new week tomorrow, and hopefully an upturn in fortunes for the second half of the month. Who knows what gems may lay hidden at Carlisle, Market Rasen and Wolverhampton tomorrow ?!

Sunday 15 February
After yesterday's disaster I was anticipating a quiet day from the services and so it proved with just three bets, all from Tipping Legends. Another trying day with their first selection coming in second at 10/1, and the other two racing prominently and then stopping as if shot after being well backed.
To complete this woeful weekend, nothing doing on the golf either. Louis Oosthuizen launched a last round charge hitting 10 birdies to finish 3 shots behind the winner and 2 out of the money.

Apologies for the title, but an absolutely desperate day with not a single winner among 16 bets advised. The only return of the day was on the lay of Breedsbreeze advised by SLH. Other than that, nothing whatsoever and all very disappointing. Haven't had a bet on the football today so can't get out on that and the golf bets don't look very promising either at this stage.

Poor Day

Nothing to show from 8 bets this afternoon, with Snow Dancer beaten a neck the closest I came to getting a winner. Maraafeq also ran a good race to be third, beaten less than two lengths in desperate conditions at Plumpton. The ride given to Our Kes was interesting to say the least. Usually held up in her races, she was hard ridden to lead early - led until three out before fading and being eased to finish last. 4/1 was the price I took, the SP was 17/2 and no doubt bigger on Betfair. Hmmmmm...
Fine margins again today, but I seem to be regularly on the wrong side of it at the minute. Nothing to worry about of course, but £800 is a big loss on a non-descript days racing. The month seems to be shaping up like January as far as the horses are concerned. But if the final total comes out the same I won't be complaining - just need to find another 80/1 winner on the golf to keep things on track !!

Profit and Loss w/e 08/02/09
A small loss on the week, with only The Form Analyst and Tipping Legends showing a profit on the horses. A poor week for the SLH A/W service with no winners from seven bets advised. Looking at the year to date figures, only SLH is currently showing a profit.
Another winner on the golf keeps losses to a minimum and Camilo Villegas eventually finished third to secure the place part of my bet - finished two behind the winner, never holed a putt all day. Fine margins as ever, but another big profitable week on the golf.

** Had a nightmare trying to get the bet on Melissa Reid on. Managed to achieve £6.25 e/w with Skybet at 50/1. Stan James and Ladbrokes both cut the price to 40/1 before I got on, SJ gave me £4 e/w @ 40/1, Ladbrokes offered me £2.50 e/w @ 40/1 !! Next port of call was Boylesports - asked for the remaining £12.25 e/w @ 40/1 with them - offered me £7 which I accepted, then by the time the bet was re-offered they had cut the price to 35/1 so I got nothing ! Put the rest on with Bet 365 at 35/1 - who would have let me have £167 on if I wanted it when I checked what the max allowed was. It was Bet 365 who layed the Katherine Hull bet in full.
Not all the firms price up the ladies golf and so you are limited to where you can go for a bet, but if they aren't prepared to lay anything then why bother - they're nearly as bad as Betfred !!!

Woke up this morning to the news that Katherine Hull had duly won the ANZ Ladies Masters. Indeed she cruised to a 5 shot victory to land my 12/1 bet.
So a great start to the day, got the all weather card at Kempton this afternoon with 5 bets advised from my services, and Camilo Villegas lies second in the Buick Invitational, three shots off the lead. Hopefully it will be quite a day. Back later....

Relying on the golf again

Just the one winner today, courtesy of The Form Analyst which meant a losing day - close call though. Maths had an each way double with the first leg beaten a neck and the second one winning, and in my football bet all 5 were winning with 10 minutes left but in the end just one treble from it.

Day at home today, which was very nice - snow coming down outside. Fire on and watching the racing, now the cricket and later on the golf. Lovely !!

Staking - Again !!
As I mentioned the other day, the staking is being reviewed again and as the results of each service have been analysed it is becoming clear that the staking plan I started with last November is not up to the job - far from it in one or two cases.
Still got a couple more sets of results to work through, but it's pretty clear that level stakes is the way to go from now on - so from now on £100 win bets on each will be the new stake.
There will be the odd variation with ante-post bets, each way doubles etc and these will be noted as I go along.
Hopefully this will be the catalyst to even better results going forward, and I'll be able to post a very special result come the end of this year - rather than a very good one !!!

MOB Horseracing Tips
As you may recall, I was contacted by MOB Horseracing to ask for a bit of publicity about their service - there is a link to their site to the right.

Thunderballs !!!
The snow did for all the racing today. Got a fair bit here today as well - nothing like the Day After Tomorrow scenario which the news channels are reporting but the best here for a few years.
Market Rasen tomorrow has already gone, which is no surprise as it's not that far from here. Inspection tomorrow at Sedgefield where they have snow on the track, but Southwell on the all weather should be ok.
Been doing my Dad's lottery tickets while he's been on holiday. Anyway forgot to buy them while I was out on Saturday and couldn't be bothered to go out again so I bought them on line.
Had an e-mail when I got in from the National Lottery titled "News about your ticket !" - thought hello, what's this about then. Opened it and got this....
"We have some exciting news about the ticket that you bought for the Saturday 31 January draw. Please Sign In to your Account at the National Lottery website for more details"
Logged in and guess what, I've won a fiver !!! Joy unconfined, I've been beside myself ever since I got home. What are these people on - don't they realise I put a fiver on !!! Just shows why I don't bother with the lottery. Anyway buy me Dad a couple of pints when I see him - sure he'll thrilled when I give hime the news.

Narrow Margins and a bit of tweaking !!
Well January is over now and the final analysis shows a profit of £4,976 - a truly amazing total considering how the month started.
Been doing some reviews of my staking plan with the help of a pricing analyst friend of mine (!) and will be making one or two changes. It's still a work in progress, but the immediate change is that from now on I will be backing all Tipping Legends horses to level stakes (£100 win). Analysis has shown that this is the most profitable strategy - and it's also what JC recommends which is fair enough. More to follow on this in the days ahead.
Aware I've been chopping and changing ever since I started, but using proper analysis will ensure I get this right and maximise my returns.

Sunday 1 February
A perfect illustration today of the narrow margin between success and failure.
SLH went for another each way double with Divers and Tullamore Dew - the win part of the bet going down in the first leg, with Divers finishing second (traded at 1.25 in running, and not helped by hitting the second last), miles clear of the third horse. Tullamore Dew then went on win, and left me to reflect on another close call.
Listening to Steve's review tonight, he explained why he didn't stake the bet the same as yesterday - where he gave the two win singles as well as the each way double. He felt the make up of the races was different to yesterday, there were several chances in Divers' race, although the place looked good, and similarly he expected the favourite to win in Tullamore Dew's race and so the value was in the place double. In hindsight he might have done things differently, but was happy with the bet beforehand and he can do no more than that.
The second near miss was Along The Nile who failed by just half a length to beat European Dream. Came from a fair way back to challenge on the run in (traded at 1.11 in running) but couldn't quite get to the winner.
Finally got on the right end of a tight one with Mr Rooney who prevailed by a nose from Whozart. Thought it had held on when I watched it live, but not so sure when I saw the freeze frame on ATR. As is usual ATR decided to take a break before the result was announced and it was some relief that I saw on teletext that Mr Rooney had just held on.
Some plenty of excitement but a profit of just £43 on the horses which is wiped out after booking the golf losses for this week.
Backed Rory McIlroy in the golf last week, one week early as he won the Dubai Desert Classic today. Second week running as Pat Perez did the same in the Bob Hope last week the week after he was tipped !!!
Looking forward, not expecting too much turf action this week as widespread snow is forecast - Lingfield tomorrow has already gone, they're inspecting at Southwell where they've got snow and there's also an inspection at Wolves on the all weather with snow expected.
