Profit and Loss w/e 28/02/10

A good week with a profit of £791, which just about levels things up since the re-start - I stand £26 down after today.

Steady pretty much sums the week up, with none of the wild swings which characterised the latter part of last year, and that's just what I'm looking for.

I've put up a few of the tables from the spreadsheet below.

Obviously these figures only include results from the last two weeks and will become more meaningful as the weeks go by, but as last year I want to give a detailed breakdown of the results each week, and the year to date position.

First one is a summary of the profit or loss for each service YTD ....

This one is the profit or loss in terms of points staked to advised prices, price taken and SP.

And this one is the profit / loss by day of week for the portfolio (excluding my personal bets)

Steady Sunday

Sunday 28 February

Not too much action today with only The Form Guru and Tipping Legends putting up any selections today.

TFG looks to be back in form with Marafeeq winning at 9/2 and Happy Fleet finishing second at an SP of 11/1.

The advised price on the e-mail for Happy Fleet was 25/1 with Betfred. However 16/1 was the best price available when the e-mail came through and that's what I'll record it at, the 25/1 had disappeared half an hour earlier according to oddschecker.

Tipping Legends have had a poor start to the year, and that continued today with another three points lost, Qozak was beaten when departing at the last.

Winabob advised Spurs at even money earlier in the week and they won 2-1.

Finally, Birdie Golf got the place money again with Song-Hee-Kim finishing in a four-way tie for third place in the HSBC Ladies Championship, three shots behind the winner. In the Phoenix Open John Rollins faded after a decent start, while Kevin Sutherland missed the cut.

Got there in the end

Saturday 27 February

A decent day for the portfolio, thanks to a late run of good results.

Football Elite had five bets today, and when the first three all lost it was looking a bit ominous. However the two evening games both resulted in wins and kept losses to a minimum.

Equine got back to winning ways with Daraldan who won the last at Lingfield.

A terrific day for The Form Guru with Clova Island (7/1 advised) and Oscar Go Go (16/1) both winning - although the 16/1 was only available with Sportingbet, I got 14/1 which was the SP. Could have been even better, but Wee Robbie was just held by the McCoy ridden Soixante having traded 1.03 in running.

One winner from two selections for Punter Profits, but nothing doing for Tipping Legends, Formbet or Winabob.

My other bets today didn't exactly cover themselves in glory as I dropped £200 on the football and £120 on the horses. However, it was profitable day overall and that's all that matters.

Not the best

Friday 26 February

When Peveril won the opening race at Warwick this afternoon, the first leg of an each way double for SLH, hopes were raised that it could be a very good day - especially in the knowledge that Equine Investments had given out five bets.

However it all fell pretty flat after that - the second leg of the double Sandofthecolosseum could only finish third, and while it was a profitable bet it wasn't the big win I was hoping for.

Managed to get 25/1 on SLH's other bet of the day (14/1 was the advised minimum price), but it ran like it's morning price suggested it would and finished down the field.

Equine have been in great form lately as everyone knows, but for once they came up empty today.

The Form Guru had one winner, Lavenoak Lad at 5/1, among his four selections.

Punter Profits had two horses today, Fin Vin De Leu (a selection on two of the systems) but the price of 4/6 was too short for me - the horse winning - and Nous Voila, who was just edged into second place by Tom O'Tara.

Still finding my way with Formbet, again just backing the headlined selections at the top of the e-mail, but I need to make more use of the write-ups as well as the daily ratings. I'll get to grips with it over the next few days I'm sure.

Done a bit of tweaking with the pivot table created by the spreadsheet, which hopefully is a bit easier to read this time. Any feedback welcome as always.

Couple of requests for a year to date summary - I'll do the same as I did last year and include that each week on Sunday evening.

I'm not exactly flying along so far - currently £467 behind since I came back.

Ssssshhhhh you know who

Thursday 25 February

Profitable day thanks to a winning account bet for Isiris, advised at 4/1 - 9/2, which is included in the personal bets total.

SLH advised two short priced lays on his exchange line and managed to get both Chilli Rose and Master Of The Hall beat. Unfortunately he also did the same to his tip on the mainline, Lisdonagh House finishing well down the field.

No joy for The Form Guru today, with four each way bets all unplaced, whilst I had a dabble on the horses Formbet highlighted in their ratings e-mail, and Hits Only Jude ensured a small profit on these bets.

Bit of a change in format for the results - I've got my results spreadsheet doing most of the work now, and I can just copy over a pivot table showing the results every day. I'll tweak the settings as I along, but this will show all the information I normally put on here, but save me loads of extra typing !

I'll just summarise the daily profit or loss and attach the pivot table underneath.

Small profit - could have been better

Wednesday 24 February

The Form Guru finally got off the mark for me when Tempting Paradise won at Ludlow this afternoon.

The only disappointment was the price - did all the TFG bets on Betfair this afternoon as I was out and about and got little more than 11/2 on the horse, 13/2 was the advised price and the SP finished up at 9/1, shame !

Nothing doing with any of the other four tips from TFG.

A 7/4 winner and a loser for Equine Investments, meant a profit of £75 on their business today which covered the bet on No Wonga, from Punter Profits.

Managed a profit on my own bets today thanks to a small bet on Marodima.

I noticed tonight that Formbet had Marodima as one of their picks today, but I'm not yet fully up to speed with their service. Looks very promising though from what I've seen so far.

Equine Again !

Tuesday 23 February

Another winner for Equine Investments today - that's five winners from seven bets from them since my re-start.

A one point win bet on Alfresco at 8/1 was today's selection, with the horse going in by half a length at an SP of 7/1.

Still waiting for my first winner from The Form Guru, but signs are looking more promising - Dansimar (14/1 adv) and Monsieur Cadou (25/1 adv) both finised second, and Sambulando was another big priced selection which travelled well for a long way before fading into fifth after the last.

SLH's exchange lay of Ogee came unstuck, despite a couple of sketchy jumps, while the Isiris main account was placed, but as I'm doing these win only then it was a loser for me.

Nothing to report

Well not quite true.

Isiris were supposed to have an account bet today, but when I rang the message it cut out before the name of the horse was given. Couldn't ring back either as that was the third callback today and you only get three "lives" per day to prevent pin numbers being shared.

No idea if anyone else had the same problem - have to wait until tomorrow to find out the name of the horse, I know which race it was but I'd be surprised if he got the winner.

Otherwise, with both jumps meetings being abandoned, there was nothing for me.

Hopefully back in action tomorrow.

**** Edited at 20.15 ****

Problem with the Isiris line must have been at my end as a couple of you have contacted me to advise that the bet lost.

Quiet end to the week

Sunday 21 February

No racing today and so it was left to the football and the golf to try and salvage something from the weekend.

I already knew I had a profit on the golf as Sergio Garcia reached the semi-finals of the World Matchplay Golf last night before being hammered by Ian Poulter. Still I landed the place part of the bet.

The advised price of 40/1 wasn't available - the message wasn't sent until the event was underway and 33/1 was the best I could manage with a bookmaker. Eventually managed to get 40 on Betfair for the win, but only 8.41 for the place.

Heath Slocum got to within a shot of the lead midway through the third round of the Mayakoba Classic, but in the end he finished tied 13th - three shots away from the places.

Three bets today from Football Elite produced one winner with Blackburn beating Bolton 3-0, but tonights picks Bari and Rennes both lost.

One out of two for Winabob as Fulham scored an injury time winner, while West Brom lost at Bristol City.

Had a couple of bets on the Spanish football today which both won and enabled me to come out with just a small loss on the day.

Saturday Shocker

Saturday 20 February

Not for the first time since I've been doing this, it was almost a total wipeout on the racing yesterday. Just two short priced winners, and I was lucky with those.

Panjo Bere, advised by Tipping Legends, won by a short head. The advised price was 10/3, but there two non-runners at the front of the market, so 6/4 was the best available by the time the message came through. Nothing doing with any of their other selections, although Miko de Beachene was still travelling well when coming down at the end of the back straight.

My other winner was Sprinter Sacre in the Ascot bumper put up by Punter Profits. I took the early price of 11/10, SP was 8/11 - this time the winning margin was a nose ! The Sawyer was the other PP selection yesterday - ran a fair race to be third at 20/1.

The first bet of the day set the tone, a 4 point bet from SLH on Knockara Beau. A poor round of jumping put paid to any chance he had of turning over Burton Port - indeed he did to get second place in the end.

No joy either for SLH on his exchange line, with the two he put up in the Haydock 4.45 failing to trouble the judge.

The bad run for The Form Guru goes on, with an each way place on Chief Yeoman the only return.

Paul Jones advised Coe each way in the Blue Square Gold Cup, but a bad mistake down the back effectively ended his chances and he trailed in a distant seventh.

On the football, it was one winner and one loser for both Football Elite and Winabob.

Adding in other bets I had on the racing and the football, I ended up losing four figures. Despite moderating the stakes I still laid out over £2000 yesterday - it would have been nearly £5000 using the plan I had in place at the end of last year. That's the reason for the change, that level of exposure is too much on one day - and it was happening nearly every week.

All Sunday's racing has been abandoned due to frost or snow, so I've just got the football and the golf today.

2010 Staking Plan

Well I've been working on the staking plan for this year over the last few days and I'm ready to go with it now.

What I've done is assigned each service a betting bank in terms of points.

I've then applied a weighting to each service to help come up with a stake per point, I have applied a higher weighting to those services which I consider will produce the best results over the rest of this year.

This is highly subjective of course, but the highest rating unsurprisingly has gone to Equine Investments, who have produced outstanding results for a number of years now, not least since last May when I first joined.

I then calculated the bank required in financial terms for each service, and finally applied a leverage factor to work out how much in actual cash I need to have in place for this project.

I've attached my calculations here, which shows that by applying a leverage factor of 2.25 I can operate the portfolio I've set up with a cash betting bank of £40,000.

There are no guarantees of course, but it should be remembered that even during the shocking run at the end of last year, the worst drawdown in cash terms was around £18,000, so given a similar run of results this year then I should be OK.

You'll see that I've got three lines headed "A N Other" - this is to cover additional services or systems that I may add in the next few weeks. I've also assigned £2500 as a bank for personal bets / trades.

Any time I add or drop a service I will re-calculate all the figures and adjust the stakes accordingly.

A couple of things to note -

First I've signed up with Formbet for three months and will get started with them next week.

Second - I will bet the Isiris main account bets win only to level stakes of £150 - this will get round the problem of being unable to place many of the advised each way bets - just got to get the prices now !

As an aside KB has asked me not to name the Isiris account bets on the blog from now on. Don't have an issue with that really, although I'd prefer it the way it was obviously - I will just record the returns under the heading of my personal bets.

Any comments or questions, please let me know.

Friday catch up

Friday 19 February

I was out Friday afternoon and evening, hence no update until now.

Equine Investments continued their recent hot streak with another winner - Bollywood Style winning at an advised price of 5/1.

A winner for Punter Profits with Qaspal at Sandown, while their other selection Souter Point was unplaced.

SLH advised a lay of Born Again at Fakenham, and the horse was beaten into second despite being backed down to an SP of 10/11.

The Form Guru continues to find winners elusive - four bets yesterday producing a couple of third places, while Tipping Legends also came up empty from two bets, including a short priced win double where both legs lost.

I've just about finalised my staking plan for 2010 which I'll outline later on today.

Nothing doing

Thursday 18 February

Just two of the services in action today.

Tipping Legends advised an each way bet on Anquetta at 6/1 which finished second, however the BOG concession came in handy as the SP was 11/1.

TFG invested 10 points on six horses but once again came up empty handed - the second place for Doc Row was the closest I came to a return, although War Footing finishing third at 16/1 was a good run but advised as a win bet.

Edging Ahead

Wednesday 17 February

A winning day thanks to the SLH tip Plum Pudding winning the 3.10 at Leicester. The withdrawal of Gaora Lane meant a 15p deduction from the early 9/2, but that was still much bigger than the SP of 2/1.

SLH's other selection didn't fare nearly as well, Sir Punjabi pulled early and nearly came down at the third - a mistake which effectively put him out of the race.

The Form Guru also put up Sir Punjabi, one of six losers for Chris today, and I'm still waiting for my first winner from him since the restart.

Thedreamstillalive was the only selection for JC today, and my each way bet at 16/1 was landed as the horse finished second.

Three losing bets from Winabob on the football last night, three away wins advised but all the matches ended in draws, including Swansea who were pegged back by a late, twice-taken, penalty.

A few results....

Four days since the re-start, and I'm just over £100 in front.

Made a positive start over the weekend, thanks to a full house from Football Elite and three out of four winners for Equine Investments.

Elsewhere though it was a bit of a struggle, which has continued over the last couple of days, which have seen no winners and just a couple of place returns.

As I mentioned last night, I haven't yet finalised my staking plan for this year, but it won't be a million miles away from what I've started with and I'll put full details on here when I've got it sorted.

Here's what I've been up to so far, it's a bit long winded but I'll get back into daily updates from now on....

Off and running

Hi everyone,

I was going to wait until today before I got things up and running again.

However I happened to be sitting in front of my PC when the EI text came through on Saturday, and after two months without a bet, I couldn't resist any longer !

It turned out to be a good decision - hopefully the first of many I make this year, and I started off with a winning weekend. Today hasn't been too clever though.

I'll update the first results for this year in another post later on - and I'll report them in the same format as previously.

In the meantime, just a quick note about one or two changes for 2010.

Following the way last year ended, I've decided that I need to reduce the overall staking level from where it was at the end of last year.

Sure I'm being influenced by the losses in the last couple of months, but even if I had turned a profit, I was getting increasingly uncomfortable with having anything up to £5000 on the line on the busiest days.

I'm still finalising the staking plan, but I'm sure I've got something that will do the job, while keeping the stress levels to a manageable level !

I'll give full details when I've got everything sorted.

A few changes to the portfolio - I've dropped Maths, SLH's all weather service and the Isiris Insider Bets for this year. I'm still looking at potential replacements.

Finally, you'll have noticed the blog looks a bit different - been using the same template for the last two years so I thought I'd change things, might do a bit more messing with this as well.

So it's a bit of a "work in progress" at the minute, but I'm getting there and looking forward to the challenge ahead !

Here we go again !

Hi everybody,

Back from my travels now, so thought I'd just do a quick update here.

Will be off and running again in the next few days, currently having a think about how I'm going to play things this year - there will be some changes, but I'm still mulling things over.

Also received a few comments while I was away, which I'll reply to when I've got a bit more time.

Trying to catch up on a few things, so I'll leave it there for now and update again over the weekend.

All the best...
